Frederick Ralph Middleton was born on 4th May 1898 he was baptised on 16th May 1898 at St Anns Church, Duddeston, Warwickshire, he was the son of William an engine driver and Jessie Middleton née Allder and the brother of Annie Elizabeth Middleton.

His father William was born in 1861 at Stourbridge, Worcestershire, his mother Jessie Allder was born in 1866 at Birmingham, they were married in 1885 at West Bromwich, they went on to have 5 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 5 Ebenezer Square Lowdham Street Alfred Street South Nottingham. head of the family is Jessie 43 yrs she is married she is living with her daughter Annie Elizabeth 18 yrs a blouse machinist single and Fred 12 yrs a scholar (Jessie has stated she has been married for 25 yrs and has had 5 children, sadly 1 had died in infancy or early childhood.

Upon his enlistment in 1915 he states his next of kin is his father William Middleton who was living at 75 Alma Crescent, Vauxhall, Birmingham.

Military history

Lance Corporal Frederick Ralph Middleton enlisted at Nottingham on 9th January 1915, giving his age as 19 years and 2 months, his address was 33 Moody Street, Carlton Road, Nottiham, he was a printer. his next of kin was his father William of 75 Alma Crescent, Vauxhall, Birmingham. , he served with the Military Foot Police formerly (9001) King's Royal Rifle Corps, he embarked from Southampton 3rd October 1916 landing Le Harve the following day. He was transferred to the Military Police on 5th July 1918. He was admitted to the Exter War Hospital on 20th February 1919 he died on 2nd March 1919 of influenza at Exeter War Hospital and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery.
