Family history

Alfred Charles Fletcher was born on 12th January 1888 at Radford, he was the son of Alfred a machine tool fitter and Ellen Elizabeth Fletcher née Mantle and the brother of Beatrice, Flora, William, Horace, Percy, Augustus and Gertie Fletcher.

His father Alfred Fletcher was born in 1862 at Derby, his mother Ellen Elizabeth Mantle was born in 1862 at Lenton, they were married on 26th December 1881 at Nottingham, they had 8 children,

In 1891 the family lived at 118 Birkin Avenue Hyson Green and in 1901 at 331 Denman Street Old Radford (both Nottingham).

In 1911, when Alfred Charles was boarding at 154 Wolverhampton Road, Walsall, he is shown as being 24 yrs single and a hosiers assistannt, and his mother Ellen Fletcher still lived in Radford at 7 Palin Street with six of her children.

He was the husband of Ethel (née Marvin) Fletcher (born 19th December 1885 ) they were married in 1911 at Nottingham, they had 2 sons Stanley George born 9th December 1912 and Alfred Fletcher born 10th April 1916 .

Commencing 29th October 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

Military history

Private Alfred Charles Fletcher enlisted at Coventry.he served with the 1st battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 11th April 1917, he is buried at Point-Du-Jour Military Cemetery Athies Grave Reference: Sp. Mem. B. 7
