Albert Chambers was born in 1884 at Netherfield, he was the son of Joseph a general labourer and Sarah Ann Chambers née Shaw of 24 Dennis Street, Netherfiled., he was the brother of John, Edith, Florence and Harold Chambers.
His father Joseph was born in 1844 at Ecclshall, Staffordshire, his mother Sarah Ann Shaw was born in 1849 at Nottingham, they were married on 3rd June 1889 at St Augustines Church, Basford, they went on to have 5 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Cicly Terrace, High Street, Basford, Joseph is 67 yrs a genral labourer, heis living with his wife Sarah Ann 62 yrs and their children Albert 30 yrs a blacksmith labourer, Florrie 21 yrs a hosiery mender, Beatrice 17 yrs a hosiery mender and Hannah 11 yrs a scholar.
Private Albert Chambers enlisted on 5th November 1914 at Ripley, giving his age as 29 yrs and 10 months, his address was Hall Row, Swanwick, Derbyshire he was posted to the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he embarked from Folkstone on 26th February 1917 landing at Boulogne the same day. He was killed in action, 17th April 1918, during the German attack on the British positions near Kemmel, Belgium having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
