Benjamin Spall was born on 10th February 1873 at Shoreitch, London he was the son of James a cabinet maker and Elizabeth Mary Ann Spall née Barker Hodson of London
His father James Spall was born in 1845 at London, his mother Elizabeth Mary Ann Barker Hodson was born in 1844 at London, they were married on 14th August 1864 at St James Church. Shoreditch, they went on to have 9 children.
Benjamin married Louisa Miller born 1881 they were married in 1910 at Nottingham, they lived at 69 Crossman Street, Sherwood, Nottingham, she later lived at 'Woldview' Strand Mablethorpe Lincolnshire.
In the 1911 census they lived at 9 Ormonde Terrace, Burnham Street, Nottingham. Benjamin 33 yrs of age he is a lace machine fitter and his wife Louisa 30 yrs
Corporal Benjamin Spall enlisted into the Army on 22nd October 1901, he initially served with the 2nd battalion Royal Irish Rifles, later transferring to the Northumberland Fusiliers, he was discharged from the Army on 26th June 1918, he was allocated a Silver War Badge no 416464 he died on 13th November 1918 and is buried in Nottingham General Cemetery.
