William Ackroyd (junior) was born in 1897 the son of William Ackroyd (senior) a lace maker and Sarah Jane Ackroyd née Vickers and the brother of Edith, Dorothy May and Florence Emma Ackroyd of 52 Norton Street, Radford.

William Ackroyd (senior) was born in 1870 at Nottingham and Sarah Jane Vickers was born in 1878 both were born in Nottingham, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham,they had 4 children.

In 1911 they lived at 12 Russell Street Nottingham William Ackroyd 41 yrs is a lace maker he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 33 yrs and their children, William 13 yrs a scholar, Edith 12 yrs, Dorotyh May 10 yrs and Emma 7 yrs old.

Military history

Lance Corporal William Ackroyd enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/4th battlaion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died of wounds on 30th March 1918 and is buried at Boves West Communal Cemetery
