John Henry Chamberlain was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of George a brick layers labourer and Mary Jane Chamberlain née Hurt and the brother of George, Martha, Samuel, Alice and William Chamberlain. In 1901 they lived at 18 Rawson Street Basford Nottingham.
His father George was born in 1869 at Barrow Leicestershire, his mother Mary Jane Hurt was born in 1872 at Basford, they were married on 1st September 1899 at St Leodegarius Church, Basford, they went on to have 9 children sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
iIn the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Bramcote Place, Lenton, Nottingham, George 42 yrs is a bricklayers labourer, he is living with his wife Mary 39 yrs and their 7 children, including John 15 yrs an errand lad.
John Henry married Edith Patchettt (born 27thAugust 1896) , they were married in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they had a son Robert Charles Patchett born 14th August 1916 they lived at 16 Maitland Road, Woodthorpe Drive, Mapperley, Nottingham.
His widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commennced on 24th June 1918.
His widow married Jesse Boden in 1919.
Driver John Henry Chamberlain enlisted at Nottingham, he served with X 34th Trench Mortar Bty Royal Field Artillery, he was killed in action on 24th November 1917, he is buried at Bucquoy Road, Cemetery.
