Thomas Proctor Gardner was born in 1872 at Worksop, he was the son of Samuel Henry Gardner a book binder and Elizabeth Gardner née Thorpe of Worksop,

His father Samuel Henry Gardner was born in 1841 at Huddersfiled, he died in 1874 at Worksop,he was 33 yrs old, his mother Elizabeth Thorpe was born in 1844 at New Malton, Yorkshire, she died in 1902 at Worksop, she was 58 yrs old, they were married on 22nd January 1867 at St Leonards Church, New Malton, Yorkshire, they went on to have 3 children, Samuel Henry b1871 Worksop, Thomas Proctor born 1872 Worksop and Ernest Gardner born 1874 Worksop.

Thomas Proctor Gardner married Mary Ellen Key born 1874 at Sheffield, they were married on 4th September at St John Church Worksop, they had 2 children their other surviving child was Rhonda born 1895 at Worksop.

In the 1911 census census the family are living at 20 Holgate Road,Meadwos, Nottingham, Thomas Proctor Gardner (senior) 38 yrs is a wood sawyer, he is living with his wife Mary Ellen 36 yrs and their children, Thomas Proctor (junior) 17 yrs an assistant in a leather warehouse and Rhonda 15 yrs is cutter out.

Military history

Private Thomas Proctor enlisted at Nottingham on 5th March 1915, he served with the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and landed with his battalion in Gallipoli on 31st February 1915, he was wounded a gun shot wound to his thigh and was discharged from the Army on 4th March 1918, he was awarded a Silver War Badge No 351170 he was 39 yrs old.

He is not recorded on the Soldiers died in the Great War or the cwgc

His pension record card shows his address as 130 Barnby Gate, Newark.
