Wallace Smith was born in 1889 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry a grocer and provisions merchant and Eleanor Smith née Watson-Farnsworth of ‘The Knoll, Harlaxton Drive, Nottingham. His father Henry was born in 1862, his mother Eleanor Watson Farnsworth was also born in 1862, they were both born in Nottingham, they were married on 18th May 1882 at Holy Trinity Church, Nottingham, they had 3 children, they other children were Mabel b1883 and Harry born 1886 In the 1911 census the family are living at The Knoll, Harlaxton Drive, Nottingham, Henry 49 yrs is a grocer and provisions merchant, he is living with his wife Eleanor 49 yrs and their children, Mabel 28 yrs, Harry 26 yrs a grocers assistant and Wallace an architects assistant. he was engaged to Alice Dickinson of Surrey.

He was killed at the Battle of Cambrai and is buried in Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France
