George Billson was born in 1898 at Nottingham he was the son of Frederick a tram car cleaner and Frances Billson née Peach of 44, Vernon Avenue, Old Basford, Nottingham. he was the brother of Henry, Frederick, Albert, Gladys, Harold and Mabel Billson.

His father was born in 1868 at Basford, his mother Frances Peach was born in 1870 at Nottingham, they were married on th March 1892 at St Leodegarius Church, Basford, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 9 Alice Square, Queen Street, Old Basford, Nottingham Frederick 43 yrs is a tram car cleaner he is living with his wife Frances 41 yrs and their 7 children including George 13 yrs ,

Military history

Private George Billson enlisted at Nottingham, initially served with the service number 63296 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, later transferring to the 6th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 10th October 1918 at 22nd casualty clearing station, France, he is buried at Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, France.
