Family History
James was born in Retford in 1880, and was the son of Charles and Louisa Hindley (nee Wyse).
It would appear that Louisa died while giving birth to James in 1880 and that he was then brought up by his widowed maternal grandmother Charlotte Wyse with whom he is recorded living on the three census returns between 1891 and 1911.
In 1911 Charlotte, 79 years of age, and James, 30 years of age, were living at 34 Bridge Gate, Retford. James, who was unmarried, worked as a cycle repairer.
Military History
James enlisted at Retford and served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby) Regiment.
He died of wounds on 30th October 1917 and he is buried in Bleuet Farm Cemetery, Belgium (grave reference II.A .9).
