Herbert George Harrod was the youngest son of William Harrod and Matilda Goulder who married in the Basford registration district in 1877.
Their children included: James (b.1880), Ada (b.1883/1892), Alice Jane (b.1885), Annie Matilda (b.1888), Walter (b.1891/1898), Percy Arthur (b.1894) and Herbert George (b.1896).
The family lived at: 1 Bismark Square, Denman Street, Radford [C.1881]; 63 Norwood Road, Radford [C.1891]; 17 Lawrence Street, Radford [C.1901]; 76 Garfield Road Radford [C.1911 & n.e.p.16.4.1918]. William Harrod, who worked as a bricklayer, died in the Basford registration district, aged 79, in 1929. His wife, Matilda, had predeceased him, dying at Nottingham, aged 73, in 1926.
Lance Corporal Herbert George Harrod enlisted at Nottingham; he served with the 2/7th battalion West Riding Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th March 1918, his body was buried in the Pommier Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais.
