Albert Claude Smith was born in 1890 at Watnall he was the son of Robert Smith a shopkeeper and sub postmaster and Frances Smith née Raven of Watnall Nottinghamshire.
His father Robert was born in 1862 at Watnall, his mother Frances Raven was bor in 1865 at Basford, they were married on 22nd June 1896 at St Mary's church, Greasley, they went on to have 8 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at Watnall, Nottinghamshire, Robert 48 yrs a shop keeper andsub postmaster is living with his wife Frances 46 yrs and their children, Frances Maud 23 yrs no occupation listed, Albert Claude 21 yrs a railway clerk, Leonard Robert 19 yrs a shop assistant, Ida May 16 yrs no occupation listed, Florence Lina 15 yrs a blouse hand, Frank Henry 11 yrs a scholar, Ethel May 9 yrs ascholar and Gwendolene Grace 5 yrs of age.
Lance Sergeant Albert Claude Smith enlisted and served with No. 9 Company Royal Army Ordnance Corps, he died on29th November 1918 in Egypt, he is buried at Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
