Frank McElroy was born in 1890 at Rhyl, Wales, he was the son of John a carriage builder and Margaret McElroy née Stanton , he was the brother of Gordon McElroy born 1186 Rhyl and Edward McElroy born 1887 Rhyl.
His father John was born in1850 on the Isle of Man, his mother Margaret Stanton was born in 1850 at Liverpool, they were married in 1887 at Liverpool they had 3 children.
In the 1911 cenus Frank has left the family home, he is boarding at 23 Hartington Road, Sherwood Nottingham, he is 20 yrs of age and is a groom and gardener, he is living with William Burton Stevenson 48 yrs a box manufactuere and his family.
Frank was the husband of Hannah Foxhall (born 15th February 1895) they were married in 1916 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 41 Newstead Colliery Village Nottinghamshire.
Commencing 18th June 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week at this date she was living at 74 Rossington Road, Nottingham.
Private Frank McElroy was residing at Sneinton whem he enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 8th October 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
