Albert Clifton was born in 1887 at Kimberley, he was the son of John Sison and Hannah Clifton née Soar of 2 Church Street Kimberley Nottinghamshire.
John Sison was born in 1854 at Moorgreen, Nottinghamshire, his mother Hannah Soar was born in 1856 at Kimberley, they were married on 29th February 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 9 children.
In the 1901 census the family are living at49 Church Hill, High Street, Kimberley John 47 yrs is a coal miner he is living withhis wifeHannah 45 yrs and their 7 children including Albert 14 yrs a coal miner ganger and Robert 15 yrs a coal miner ganger.
On 18th May 1907 Albert married Sarah Lebeter (born 1886) at the Holy Trinity Church, Kimberley, they went on to have 2 children, Albert born 1908 Kimberley, Hilda born 1912 Doncaster they lived at 12 Knowle Lane, Kimberley
Private Albert Clifton enlisted and served with the 5th Reserve Bn Sherwood Foresters he went to France 25th June 1915. he was discharged on 30th January 1918 with acute nephritis (kidney failure) He died 20th May 1921, aged 34 and is buried at Kimberley Cemetery, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. His brother Acting Bombadier Robert Clifton enlisted at Doncaster, he served with the 'D' Bty 23rd Brigade Royal Filed Artillery, he was killed in action on 12th October 1917, he is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery Grave Reference: XXVIII H 18
