Roland Parker was born in 1895 at Annesley, he was the son of Aaron a retired coal miner contractor. and Ann Parker née Green of Annesley Nottinghamshire.
His father Aaron was born in 1852 at Pinxton, his mother Ann Green was born in 1862 at Curber, Derbyshire, they were married on 18th April 1881 at All Saints Church, Annesley, they went on to have 8 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 83 New Annesley, Nottingham, Aaron 59 yrs is a retired coal miner contractor, he is living with his wife Ann 48 yrs and their children, Aaron 28 yrs a colliery lamp examiner, Mary 19 yrs no occupation listed, Roland 16 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Elsie 12 yrs a scholar, Ethel May 7 yrs and Doris 3 yrs old.
Private Roland Parker enlisted and served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards, he died on 23rd November 1918 of pneumonia, he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery
