George Webberley was born in 1870 at Hognaston, Derbyshire, he was the son of the late Bryan Webberley of Sheepshill Farm Ashbourne Derbyshire and his second wife Martha Webberley née Slack
His father Bryan was born in 1833 at Shirley he died in 1906 at Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire, he was 73 yrs of age, he married his first wife Eliza Bestwick born 1830 Osmanton, Derbyshire she died in 1862 aged 30 yrs, they were married on 31st March 1858 at Osmanton they had a daughter Fanny born and died in 1861.
His father went on to marry his second wife Martha Slack born 1846 at Wirksworth she died in 1901 at Kirk Ireton she was 55 yrs, they were married on 16th August 1865 at Derby they had 5 children. Martha Agnes born 1867, Edward born 1869, George born 1870, Frank born 1871 and Arthur born 1884.
In the 1901 census the family are living at Sheep Hill, Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire, Brian 69 yrs is a butcher he is livingwith his wife Martha 56 yrs and their children, George 31 yrs a horseman, Arthur 18 yrs a bread maker.
George was the husband of Sarah Elizabeth Mary Crange (born 28th March 1866) of 17 Lynn Croft Eastwood they were married in 1905 their marriage was recorded in the Ashbourne registration district.
He first enlisted at Liverpool 18th November 1887 giving his age as 20 although he was actually 18. He served in India with the Royal Artillery and discharged after 12 years 17th November 1899.
He re-enlisted at Nottingham 15th September 1914 aged 45 years 83 days under the name Webberley he was a caretaker. He served with the Royal Field Artillery landing in France on 9th March 1915, he returned to England on 28th August 1915 . He was transferred as Lance Corporal to (327072) 589th Home Service Employment Corps Labour Corps he was demobilsed in February 1919 his address was Lynn Croft, Eastwood.
He died in the UK from pleurisy and pneumonia on 16th April 1919, he is buried at Greasley (St Mary's Churchyard)
His correct name was Wibberley but served as Webberley
