Ben Stocks was born on 8th September 1892 at Pinxton, he was baptised on 4th December 1892 at Pinxton, he was the son of John a coal miner and Mary Ann Stocks née Parramore of Pinxton.

His father John Stocks was born in 1850 at Pinxton, his mother Mary Ann Stocks was born in 1848 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 20th July 1868 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district,Mary Ann brought two children to the marriage, Arthur Parramore born 1864 and William Parramore born 1866, they had a futher 8 chidren children.

In the 1911 census his family were living at 23 Sleight Lane, Pinxton John Stocks 61 yrs a coal miner is living with his wfie Mary Ann 63 yrs and their son Ben 18 yrs of age no occupation listed

Ben was married to Ellen Severns (born 19th June 1894) they were married in 1913 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration district, they had 2 children, John born 17th June 1913 and Ben born 31st May 1915.

Commencing 6th March 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shiilings and 6 pence a week.

Military history

Private Ben Stocks enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Pye Bridge, Nottinghamshire he served wit the 8th Bn The Royal Welch Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 11th August 1915 at Gallipoli, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.
