Herbert William Pollendine was born in 1886 at Shardlow, he was the son of the late Dearsley David Pollendine a general labourer and the late Eliazbeth Pollendine née Hullyer.
His father Dearsley was born in 1856 at Bottisham, Cambridgshire, he died in 1898 at Basford, Nottingham, he was aged 42 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Hullyer was born in 1848 at Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgshire, she died in 1889 at Chesterfield she was 41 yrs old, they were married in 1881 at Shardlow, Derbyshire, they had 3 children, their other susrviving children were Beatrice born 1883 and Emily Mary born 1887.
In the 1911 census Herbert William is in barracks in India, he is 25 yrs old and is serving with the 1st batalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
Lance Corporal Herbert Pollindine enlisted at Chesterfield whils residing at Stanton, Nottinghamshire, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Forester Regiment, he died of wounds on 27th September 1916, he is buried at St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.
