Herbert Pilch was born in 1883 at Annesley he was the son of Henry Pilch a coal miner contractor and Elizabeth Pilch née Kye
His father Henry was born in 1863 at Neasenham, Norfolk, his mother Elizabeth Kye was born in 1840 at Gayton Thorpe, Norfolk. they were married on 26th February 1863 at St John's Church in Surrey, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
Herbert was the husband of Ada Turner (born 10th October 1885) they were married on 15th October 1903 at the Basford registry office, they had a son Fuller Pilch born 20th January 1906 and lived at 116 New Annesley Nottinghamshire.
In 1911 they lived at 96 New Annesley Nottinghamshire. Herbert 27 yrs is a coal miner he is living with his wife Ada 27 yrs and their son Fuller 5 yrs of age.
In the same 1911 census his parents are living at 116 New Annesley, Nottinghamshire Henry 68 yrs a miner contractor, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 71 yrs.
Commencing 15th January 1917 his widow Ada was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.
Ada later moved to 58 Randolph Road Gillingham Kent.
Private Herbert Pilch enlisted on 15th February 1915, at Hucknall, giving his address as 116 New Annesley, Nottinghamshire, he was 31 yrs and 200 days , he was a coal miner his next of kin was his wife Ada of the same address, he was posted to the Royal Army Mdical Corps, He embarked from Southampton on 3rd April 1915 disembarking at Rouen he following day. Posted to the 21st Field Ambulance he was killed in action on 5th July 1916 he is buried at Bronfay Farm Military Cemetery, Bray-Sur-Somme, France
