Douglas McGregor was born in 1895 at Camden Town,Middlesex, he was the son of the late Water McGregor a watchmaker and repairer and Knudina McGregor née Lejon of St Pancras London.
His father Walter was born in 1865 at Gorton, Lancashire, he died in 1910 aged 46 yrs in the Strand, London, his mother Knudina Lejoh was born in 1867 in Norway, they were married in 1891 at St Pancras , they had a further child a daughter Knudina born 1893 at St Pancras.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Agar Street, Strand, London, Knudina 44 yrs is a widow she is a watch and repairer shop manager, she is living with her children, Knudina 18 yrs a student teacher and Gordon 16 yrs an apprentice watch repairer,
His mothers address was given as c/o Mrs Barringer of Innesdon, Chesterfiled Road, Mansfield (pension record cards)
Lance Corporal Douglas McGregor enlsted at Westminster whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, he served with the 2nd battalion Essex Regiment, he was killed in action on the 1st July 1916 the first day of the battle of the Somme, he is buried at Serre Road, Cemetery Number 2, France.
