John Haywood was born in 1884 at Normanton, Yorkshire,
He was the husband of Ada Morley (born 23rd November 1882) whom he married in 1903 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district,
In the 1911 census they lived at 5 Critchley Street Ilkeston Derbyshire, John Haywood 27 yrs a coal miner loader is living with his wife Ada 25 yrs, they are living with three boarders.
They later lived at Stoneyford Lane, Sutton in Ashfield, commencing 17th December 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private John Haywood enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Asfield,he served initially with the service number 12687 in the Leicestershire Regiment, he was transferred to the 10th battalion Linclnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th April 1917, he is buried at Roeux British Cemetery, France.
