Cornelius Hawley

Cornelius Hawley was born in 1889 at Cinderhill he was baptised on 31st January 1889at St Leodegarius Church, Old Basford, he was the son of William a coal miner hewer and Millicent Hawley née Jones of 13 West Gate, Old Basford, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1865 at Ripley, his mother Millicent Jones was born in 1868 at Basford, they were married on 3rd March 1887 at St Leodegarius Church, Old Basford, they had 11 children, sadly 5 were to di in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 13 West Gate, Old Basford, Nottingham, William 41 yrs is a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Millicent 43 yrs and their children, Cornelius 22 yrs a pottery labourer at a clay works, Florrie 13 yrs a scholar, Ivy 11 yrs, William 6 yrs and Albert 3 yrs of age.

Cornelius married Lottie Marriott (born 28th October 1888) they were married on 15th February 1913 at St Johns Church, Bulwell, they lived at 61 Duchess Street, Bulwell, they had two children, Annie born 17th February 1913 and Albert 29th February 1914.

Commencing 25th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and five pence a week.
