Cecil Harris was born in 1902 at Hucknall he was the son of John Harris a coal miner and Mary Harris née Twigger of 21. Byron Street, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.

His father John Harris was born in 1858 at Bulkington, Warwickshire, his mother Mary Twigger was born in in 1862 at Old Hill, Staffordshire, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 10 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 51a Beardall Street, Hucknall, John 53 yrs is a coal miner he is living with his wife Mary 48 yrs and their children, Gertie 23 yrs a hosiery machinist, John 19 yrs a coal miner, Percy 16 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Wilfred 12 yrs, Cecil 9 yrs and Walter 4 yrs old.

Military history

Private Cecil Harris enlisted and served with the 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards he died on 10th Aprril 1920 of Appendicitis at the Military Hospital at Richmond, he is buried at H ucknall Cemetery, Broomhill road, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.
