William Henry Harris was born in 1886 at Sutton in Ashfield, he was the son of George a gentlemans gardener and Ellen Harris née Brooks of 74 Bowne Street Sutton in Ashfield.
His father George was born in 1854 at Sutton in Ashfield his mother Ellen Brooks was born in 1855 at Sutonin Ashfield, they were married in 1877 at Mansfield, they went on to have 8 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 75 Bowne Street, Sutton in Ashfield, George Harris 58 yrs is a gentemans gardener, he is living with his wife Ellen 57 yrs and their son Edwin Harris 21 yrs a brick yard labourer.
William Henry was the husband of Hilda Jane (née Bryan) Harris whom he married in 1910 at Sutton in Ashfield, and the father of Fred Harris.
In 1911 they were boarding at 60 Alfreton Road Sutton in Ashfield. William Henry Harris 24 yrs is clay getter miner, living with his wife Hilda J 23 yrs and their son Fred 1 year of age, the family are boarding with Mary Ann Bryan 46 yrs a widow and her family.
Hilda married Harold Marriott at Mansfield in 1919 and they lived at 30 Swan Street Sutton in Ashfield.
Private Willam Henry Harris enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he intially served with the service number 49703 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) He was transferred and served with the 13th battalion The King's Liverpool Rgiment. He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial
