Alfred William Blow was born in 1896 at Nocton Heath, Lincolnshire, he was the son of Robert a cattleman on a farm and Lydia Elizabeth Blow née Stokes of 77 Prospect Street East Kirkby Nottinghamshire.
His father Robert was born in 1869 at Dunston, Lincolnshire, his mother Lydia Elizabeth Stokes was born in 1865 at Bourne, Cambridgshire, they were married in 1892 at Spilsby, Lincolnshire, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family livied at Clapton, Thrapston Robert 42 yrs a cattleman on a farm is living with his wife Lydia Elizabeth 46 yrs and their children, Alfred William 15 yrs a farm labourer, Elizabeth 13 yrs a scholar, John Robert 10 yrs a scholar, Edith Maud 8 yrs and Frederick George 6 yrs of age.
Private Alfred William Blow enlisted at Sleaford, Lincolnshire whilst residing at East Kirkby he served with the 2nd batalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 31st July 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
