Curtis Wood was born in 1891 at Bulwell he was the son of Henry William Wood a painter and the late Lucy Wood née Wilkinson of 63, Windmill St., New Radford, Nottingham the brother of John and Margaret Ann.
His father Henry William was born in 1860, Lucy Wilkinson was born in 1868 at Bulwell she died in 1910 aged 48 yrs, married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district they went on to have 8 children sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood.
In 1911 Henry William is living at 47 Lea Street, Radford, he is shown as being 50 yrs a painter and a widow and is living with his son Curtis 21 yrs a stoker and Margaret Anne 15 yrs of age.
The photograph caption in the Evening Post dated 10th April 1915 shows his address as 63 Brassey Street, Radford
His next of kin was his sister Elizabeth Mable Wood of 37 Cavendish Street, Hucknall.
Private 2344 Curtis Wood enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he enlisted on 2nd December 1907 at Nottingham, giving his age as 17 yrs and 11 months he was a lace maker. Posted to the Special Reserve on 14th June 1908. Mobilised for war 6th August 1914, he landed in France on 27th December 1914 and died on 31st January 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
His brother John Frederick Wood enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Radford, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 17th July 1916 and is buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery Saulty
