Family history

William Grady was born in 1878 at St Peters Port, Guernsey he was the son of Eliza Grady of Deering Street Nottingham.

He was the husband of Charlotte (formerly Hayes) Grady and the step father of Dorothy Hayes. They lived at 123 Russell Road Forest Fields.

His sister Catherine (Kate) Fowler lived at 192 Berridge Road Hyson Green (both Nottingham). (ASR)

Military history

Sergeant William Grady had previously served 12 years with 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) and 4 years with 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters.

He attested on 3rd September 1914, at Ibstock, Leicestershire standing 5' 8" tall and weighing 146 lbs.

He was posted 9th September1914 and made acting corporal 9th October 1914,, lance sergeant 10th June 1915 and sergeant 10th July 1915. He served in France between 27th August 1915 and 9th October 1915. His body was discovered '2 miles SE of Armentieres on 13th May 1916 (ASR)

'O'Grady. Missing October 9th 1915, now reported killed, W.O'Grady, only brother of Mrs Fowler and the dearly loved step-father of Willie and Dolly Murphy, 123 Russell Road. Sadly missed by his motherless children.'
