Family history

Thomas Woolllerton was born in 1888 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas Barton Woollerton a provisions dealer and his second wife Elizabeth Woollerton née Young.

His fathers first wife was Emma Raven born 1825 at Nottingham she died in 1884 aged 60 yrs they were married on 2nd October 1848 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton.

His father Thomas Barton was born in in 1828 at Hoton Great Gonnerby, Grantham, his mother Elizabeth Young was born in 1861 at Nottingham, they were married on 11th April 1887 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, they had a further child, Henry born 1890.

In the 1911 census Thomas 23 yrs was the a barman at the Three Tuns, Warser Gate, Nottingham, he is living with Tom Hobbins 35 yrs a licensed victualler and his wife.

His next of kin was his brother Henry who by the time of Thomas death was livng in Quebec, Canada.

He was the fiancee of May Cookson 13 Windmill Street, Radford, Nottingham. who went on to receive his medals and his property she was his sole legatee.

Military history

Private Thomas Woollerton enlisted on 26th May 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 1 Warser Gate, Nottingham, he was 27 yrs and 3 months old, he was a barman,both his parents had died and his next of kin was his brother Henry. He was posted to the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He embarked fromSouthampton on 7th October 1915 landed in France the following day, he was posted to the 2nd battalion King's Royal Rifles on 12th October 1915, he was killed in action on 24th March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
