Family history

Thomas Tutin was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of Louis a brick layer and Elizabeth Tutin née White of Nottingham and the brother of Ann, Alfred, Louis, William, Elizabeth, George and John Tutin.

His father Louis was born in 1863 at Nottingham, his mother Elizabeth White was also born in 1863 at Nottingham, they were married on 26th November 18881 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham, they went on to hae 12 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Maidens Lane, Nottingham, Louise 48 yrs is a brick layer he is living with his wife Elizabeth 48 yrs and their children, Louis 20 yrs an iron moulder, William 18 yrs a brewer, Elizabeth 15 yrs an errand girl, George 13 yrs of age, John 12 yrs of age and Arthur 8 yrs old.

In same 1911 census we find that Thomas Tutin has left the home address he is now boarding at 249 St Scpulchre Gate, Doncaster he is shown as being 28 years of age and a brick layer, he is boarding with Ernest Severn 52 yrs a waggon builder.

Military history

Private Thomas Tutin enlisted at Nottingham on 17th December 1914, giving his age as 31 yrs and 9 months his address was 4 Red Street, Nottingham, he was a brick layer, He sreved with the 12th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died of wounds on 21st June 1916 and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord Grave Reference: II B 192

TUTIN. – 'In loving memory of Pte. Tom Tutin, killed in action June 21st, 1916. Duty nobly done. – Sister Lizzie, husband, and brother George (in France).'

'TUTIN. – Killed in action June 21st, 1916, Pte. Tom Tutin, Sherwood Foresters, of No. 4, Red-street, age 34. In a far and lonely battlefield, where the trees their branches bend, lies one of the best of sons and brothers, gone to his untimely end; we mourn for him in silence, we make no outward show, the heart that mourns silently and low. Respected by all that knew him, Nottingham, Doncaster. – From his loving mother, father, two sisters, six brothers (five serving with the colours).'
