Family history

Lewis Grimshaw was born in 1877 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas a picture frame maker and Ellen Grimshaw née Devine of Greyfriar Gate, Nottingham.

His father Thomas was born in 1857at Nottingham, his mother Ellen Devine was born in 1854 at Nottingham, they were married on 6th April 1875 at St Peters Church, Nottingham, they had 5 children, Alfred, Ethel, Frank and Evelyn Grimshaw.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 50 Greyfriar Gate Nottingham Thomas 54 yrs is a picture frame maker, he is living wth his wife Ellen 57 yrs and their children, Lewis 34 yrs an engineers labourer, Alfred 24 yrs a hosiery porter, Etel 22 yrs a hosiery worker, Frank 20 yrs a hosiery porter and Evelyn 17 yrs an apprentice cigar maker.

His pension record card shows his next of kin as his sister Miss E Grimshaw 3 Burnaby Terrace, King Lake Street, Nottingham

Military history

Private Lewis Grimshaw enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 19th April 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
