John Albert Gissing was born in 1899 at London, he was the son of Charles Ernest Gissing a cab driver and Georgina Burton Gissing née Spencer of 35 Talbot Street Nottingham.

His father Charles Ernest was born in 1868 at Lambeth London, his mother Georgina Burton Spencer was born in 1871 at Lincoln they were married on 20th April 1890 at St Botolph Church, Aldergate London, they went on to have 5 children, George Ernest born 1891 Lincoln, Harry born 1892 Whitechapel, London, Charles Ernest born 1894 Whitechapel, London, Jane born 1896 Lincoln

In the 1911 census the family are living at 46 Portland Street, Lincoln, they are living with their maternal mother Jane Spencer 67 yrs a widow and a cab propriter she is living with Charles Ernest 43 yrs son in law is a cab driver, he is living with his wife Georgina B 39 yrs and their 5 children, including John Albert 12 yrs of age.

Military history

Air mechanic 2nd class John Albert Gissing served with 44th Sqdn Royal Air Force, he commenced his service on 3rd January 1918 giving his next of kin as his father Charles Gissing he died on 30th October 1918 of pneumonia at the Military Hospital at Worley, he is buried at Lincoln (Canwick Road,) Cemetery

His name is also recorded on the Lincoln War Memorial.
