Edward Ellis- Johnson was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the adopted son of Alfred a box cutter and Nellie Johnson née Wild of 21 Walnut Tree Lane Nottingham.

His father Alfred Johnson was a box cutter he was born in 1863 at Nottingham, his mother Nellie (Ellen) Wild was born in 1861 at Nottingham, they were married in 1885 at Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 21 Walnut Tree Avenue, Nottingham Alfred 48 yrs is a box cutter he is living with his wife Ellen 49 yrs and their son Edward Johnson 12 yrs of age also living at the address is Alfred Johnson 72 yrs a widow

Military history

Edward Ellis- Johnson enlisted at Derby, initially he served with the service number 42136 in the South Staffordshire Regiment, he was posted to the Hertfordshire Regiment and was killed in action on 18th September 1918, his name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.
