Charles henry Diggle was born o 8th April 1888 at Mansfield, he was the son of Albert a hosiery frame work knitter and the late Ellen Diggle née Carrick- Stainrod and the brother of Louisa Elizabeth Diggle.of 37 Blake Street, Gordon Road, Nottingham.

His father Albert was born in 1860 at Hyson Green, his mother Ellen Carrick Stainrod was born in 1861 at Hyson Green, she died in 1916 aged 55 yrs they were married on 1st March 1887 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham. they had a daughter Louisa Elizabeth born 1891 and son Walter James born 1895.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 176 Sherwood Street Nottingham Ellen Diggle 45 yrs is married and is a lace worker, she is living withher children, Charles Henry 22 ys, not in any employment and Louisa Elizabth 19 rs a lace warehouse worker.

Military history

Private Charles Henry Diggle enlisted at Doncaster he served with the 1/4th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry he died of wounds on 25th January 1917 he is buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty
