Family history

Joseph Daykin was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas Daykin a vanman and Rebecca Daykin née Watson and the brother of Charles and George Daykin.

His father Thomas was born in 1835 at Sneinton, Nottingham he died in 1901 aged 66 yrs his mother Rebecca Watson was born in 1843, she died in 1914 aged aged 71 yrs, they were married on 15th November 1863 at St Nicholas Church, Nottingham they had 4 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 18 Isabella Street Nottingham, Rebecca 68 yrs is a widow, she is living with her children, Charles 35 yrs a box maker, Joseph 30 yrs a general labourer and George 27 yrs a silk dyer.

Military history

Private Joseph Daykin enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served wit the service number 29772 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred to the 8th Coy 19th Bn Royal Defense Corps. He died on 23rd October 1918 at the Nottingham General Hospital he is buried in Nottingham General Cemetery (0201).
