Albert Bannister was born on 9th August 1896 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 9th Augut 1896 at St Ann's Church, Nottingham he was the son of George a hotel waiter and Elizabeth Maria Bannister née Martin of Heathcoat Cottages Heathcoat Street Nottingham.

His father George was born in 1865 at Revesby, Lincolnshire, his mother Elizabeth Maria Martin was born in 1862 at Nottingham, they were married on 11th July 1893 at St Matthias Church Sneinton, they went on to have 5 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or ealy childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Heathcote Cottages, Heathcote Street, Nottingham, George 46 yrs is a hotel waiter he is living with his wife Elizabeth Maria 49yrs and their children, George 17 yrs a litho printer, Albert 14 yrs, Arthur 12 years and Harold 6 years old.

Military history

Private Albert Bannister enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 4727 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred to the 10th battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, he was missing/ killed in action on 18th November 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial
