Ernest Atkinson was born on 20th July 1891 he was baptised on 7th June 1899 at St Thomas Church, Nottingham he was the son of Thomas John a basket maker and Elizabeth Atknson née Atchinson of 26 Greyfriar Gate, Nottingham.
His father Thomas John was born in in 1866 at Basford, his mother Elizabeth Atchinson was born in 1864 at Boston, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 4 children.
In the 1911 cenus the family are living at 23 Canal Street, Nottingham Elizabeth 47 yrs married is a lace hand she is the head of the family she is living with her 2 sons Charles 24 yrs an engine degreaser and Ernest 20 yrs is an engine degreaser.
Private Ernest Atkinson enlisted and served with the 4th battle North Staffordshire Regiment, he died on 16th May 1921, of pulmanory tuberculosis he is buried at the Nottingham General Cemetery
