Family history

George Antcliffe was baptised on 16th December 1874 at St Wilfrids Church, North Muskham, he was the son of the late George a labourer and the late Ann Antcliffe née Andrews

His father George was born in 1839 at Bathley, he died in 1891 at Sutton on Trent, he was 52 yrs of age, his mother Ann Andrews was born in 1843 at Fiskerton, she died in 1904 aged 61 yrs, they were married on 14th September 1863 at St Marys Church, Newark, they had 8 children.

George married Ada Glenn in 1903 at Newark, they went on to have a son Leslie George born 1910 at Nottingham, they lived at 3 Clayton Terrace, Clayton Stret, Nottingham.

In the 1911 census George was living at 3 Clayton Terrace Clayton Street Nottingham he is shown as being 36 yrs and is a boatman, he is living with his wife Ada 30 yrs they are living with their son Leslie George 1 year old.

Military history

Private George Antcliffe enlisted on 14th November 1914 he served with the Army Service Corps.
He was discharged from the Army on 7th July 1916 with diabetes.
Issued with the Silver War Badge Number : 41886.
He died on 26 July 1920 and was buried in Nottingham General Cemetery.
Grave reference : Plot : 63 : Row : 3.4 Grave : 03806.
His Grave Registration Report Form states his rank as Lance Corporal but it may have been acting unpaid or local rank.
