Alfred Henry Winfield was born in 1880 at Beeston, he was the son of John a lace maker and the late Sarah Ann Winfield née Green of Beeston, Nottingham.
His father John was born in 1849 at Beeston, his mother Sarah Ann Green was born in 1853 at East Bridgford, Nottingham, she died in 1896 at Beeston she was 43 yrs of age, they were married on 3rd April 1877 at St Peters Church, East Bridgford, they went on to have 6 children.
In the 1911 census his widowed father is living at 12 Newton Street, Beeston, he is 62 yrs of age and is a lacemaker, he is living with his son Joseph Winfield 27 yrs a foundry labourer.
in the same 1911 census we find that Alfred Henry Winfield has left the family home he is lodging at 11 Clements Street, Coventry, he is 30 yrs single and an iron turner, he is living with William Pickrill 36 yrs a motor trade clerk and his family.
Sergeant Alfred Winfield enlisted at Coventry he served with the 1st Bn Royal Berkshire regiment, he died of wounds on 29th April 1917 he is buried at Orchard Dump Cemetery, Arleux-En-Gohelle
