Family history

Stanley Maitland Tozer was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of Maitland Tozer an ironmonger and Ada Hannah Tozer née Johnson of 88, Harrington Drive, Nottingham.

His father Maitalnd was born in 1865 at High Wycomber, Buckinghamshire, his mother Ada Hannah Johnson was born in 1862 at Nottingham, they were married on 5th May 1892, they had 3 children, 2 of whom died in infancy or early childhood, they were Winifred born and died 1894 and Leslie Maitland born and died 1896.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 854 Stratford Road, Birmingham, they are shown as Maitland 46 yrs an ironmonger he is living with his wife Ada H 49 ys and thier son Stanley M 13 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Stanley Maitland Tozer enlisted at Birmingham he initially served with the service number 6183 in the Suffolk Regiment, he later served with the 2/6th Bn Manchester Regiment, he was killed in ation on 29th January 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial (addenda panel)
