Family history

George Stamp Thompson was born in 1887 at Nottingham he was the son of the late George Isaac a drapers manager and Anne Thompson née Glendinning of Charnwood Beeston Nottingham.

His father George Isaac was born in 1856 at Sunderland he died aged 54 in 1915 at Sunderland his mother Anne Glendinning was born in 1855 at Deptford,Kent, they were married in 1883 atNewcatle upon Tyne, they had 4 children.

In the 1911 census the famiy are living at 86 Acomb Street, Mosside, Manchester, Anne 56yrs a widow is living with her children, George Stamp 24 yrs a commercial traveller, Alice Gertrude 21 yrs a sales woman and Ethel 18 yrs a pesonel secretary.

Military history

Private George Stamp Thompson enlisted at Manchester, he served with the 1/6th battalion Mancheste Regiment, he was killed in action on 5th June 1915 in Gallipoli, having no known grave his name is commemorated on The Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.
