Bernard Allan Redgate was born on 28th June 1893 at Dresden, Saxony, Germany, he was the son of William Henry Redgate a lace manufacturer and Louisa Ellen Redgate née Cass of 134, Harlaxton Drive, Nottingham.
His father William Henry Redgate was born in 1856 at Nottingham, his mother Louisa Ellen Cass was born in 1860 at Nottingham, they were married on 2nd December 1882 at St Johns Church, Beeston, Nottingham, they had 7 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 73 Musters Road, West Bridgford, Louisa Ellen Redgate 50 yrs married is living with her children, Edith Ellen 26 yrs single no occupation listed, Bernard Allan 17 yrs an assstant manager at aplain net menders, Albert Henry 14 yrs a scholar, also living at the address is Daisy Clarke 21 yrs a genral servant.
His probate was proven at Nottingham on 14th April 1920, it shows him as Bernard Allan Redgate of 134 Harlaxton Drive, Nottingham, a second lieutenant in H.M. Army died on 29th April 1918 in Belgium, his effects of £154 , and 5 shillings were left to William Henry Redgate a lace manufactuer.
Second Lieutenant Bernad Allan Redgate initially served as Corporal service number 2221 in the Army Cyclst Corps, he was commissoned on 26th March 1917 and posted to the Royal Field Artillery, he landed in France on 14th July 1915. He was killed in action on 29th April 1918, he is buried at Gwalia Cemetery, Belgium
