Family history

Walter Perry was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of William Robert a coal miner and Louisa Perry née Bradshaw, and the brother of William, Samuel, Ethel and Herbert Samuel. of Lenton, Nottingham.

His father William Robert was born in 1872 at Eastbourne, his mother Louisa Bradshaw was born in 1872 at Nottingham, they were married on29th September 1892 at St John's Church Leenside, Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly three were todie in infancy or earley childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 9 Churchill Street Gregory Street Lenton Nottingham Willam 39 yrs is a disabled miner, he is living with his wife Louisa 39 yrs and their children, Walter 18 yrs a horse driver coal miner, William 12 yrs a scholar, Samuel 10 yrs a scholar, Ethel 5 yrs of age, Herbert 3 yrs of age, also living with them is his widowed father Samuel Perry 59 yrs a bricklayer.

Military history

Rifleman Walter Perry enlisted on 12th June 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 9 Churchill Street, Old Lenton, Nottingham, he was 21 yrs and 6 months old, he was acoal miner his next of kin was his father William of the same address. He arrived at Winchester barracks on 16th June 1915 and was posted to the Rifle Brigade. He embarked for France on 6th April 1916, he was killed in action on 6th July 1917, he is buried at Torreken Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
