Family history

Enoch Edward Maltby was born in 1893 at Breaston, Derbyshire, he was the son of Ezra a railway platelayer and Elizabeth Mary Maltby née Sharpe of The Green, Breaston, Derbyshire.

His father Ezra was born in 1863 his mother Elizabeth Mary Sharpe was born in 1871 both were born at East Leake, Nottinghamshire, they were married on 9th January 1892 at Breaston, Derbyshire they had a further son Harry born 1897 Breaston.

In the 1911 census the family are living at The Green, Breaston, Ezra 46 yrs is a railway platelayer he is living with his wife Elizabeth Mary 39 yrs and their sons, Edward 17 yrs a lace maker and Harry 14 a jacker off.

Military history

Lance Corporal Enoch Edward Maltby enlisted at Beeston on 8th September 1914, he served with the 2nd battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he died of wounds on 26th September 1915 and is buried at Verque Communal Cemetery, France.
