John Henry Holland was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of Harriet Kirk (formerly Holland) and James Kirk (stepfather) of 37 Claude Street Dunkirk Nottingham they were married on 2nd Janaury 1892 at the Nottingham Registry office.
In the 1911 cenus his mother is living at 13 Priory Street, Old Lenton, she is shown as being 39 yrs she is living with her husband James Kirk 40 yrs a genreal labourer and their six children, they state that they have been married for 19 yrs and have had 7 children.
In the 1911 census, John Henry Holland was lodging at 23, Priory Street, Lenton with Henry and Sarah Pilkington his uncle and aunt, he is 19 yrs of age and is a parchment maker.
On the 17th January 1914 at Lenton Priory Church, John Henry Holland 22 yrs a parchment maker of 23 Prior Street, Lenton, married Iva Tatton 19 yrs of 37 Claude Street, Dunkirk. they go on to have a daughter Mabel Louuisa Holland born 21st September 1915.
His wife iva had died in 1916 her death was recorded in the Basford registration distirct her age was 19 yrs.
His pension record card shows that his daughter Mabel Louisa Holland has a guardian of Sarah Tatton of 22 Byron Street, East Kirkby, Nottinghamshire, she was awarded a payment of 10 shillings a week commencing 21st April 1919.
Private John Hemry Holland enlisted on 19th January 1915 at Nottingham giving his address as 34 Bunting Street, Dunkirk, Nottingham, giving his age as 23 yrs he was a parchment maker, he served with the IX Corps Cyclist Battalion. He embarked from Folkstone on 1st July 1917 disembarking at Boulogne the same day. he was admitted to the 12th casualty clearing station with a shrapnel wound to his abdomen. He died of his wounds on 8th October 1918 he is buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery, Grave Reference: VII E 24
