Family history

Edward Hinch was born in 1892 at Peterborough, he was the son of Joe a railway wagon builder and Carrie Hinch née Allen of 31, Pipe Lane, Peterborough.

His father Joe was born in 1865 at Peterborough, his mother Carrie Allen was born in 1867 at Peterborough, they were married on 25th December 1888 at St Marys Church, Peterborough, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings were living at 31 Pipe Lane, Peterborough, Joe 46 yrs is a railway wagon builder, he is living with his wife Carrie 44 yrs and their 6 children.

In the same 1911 census we find that Edward Hinch has left the family home, he is living at 207 Breedon Street, Long Eaton, he is shown as being 19 yrs and a railway wagon repairer, he is living with Arthur Gray 34 yrs a railway wagon repairer and his family

Military history

Sapper Edward Hinch enlisted a Nottingham whilst residing at Beeston, he served with the 4th Siege Coy Royal Monmouthshire, Royal Engineers, he was killed in action on 1st May 1915, he is buried at Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Grave Reference: IX J 52
