George William Osborne was born Henry George William Osbone in 1882 at Leicester, he was the son of the late Robert Thompson Osborne a painter and decorator and the late Kate Osborn née Allen of 79 Zulu Road, Basford,
His father Robert Thompson was born in in 1852 at Biddendon, Kent, he died in 1900 at Basford he was 48 yrs old, his mothe Kate Allen was born in 1854 at Leicester she died in 1901 at Nottingham aged 47 yrs they went on to have 4 children.
He was the husband of Laura Brown (born 26th October 1883) they were married on 3rd November 1906 at Nottingham, they lived at 6 Arthur Terrace New Basford Nottingham they had 2 children, William Albert born 4th December 1911, he died on 2nd February 1918 and Florence May born 29th May 1913.
Commencing 7th August 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence at this date she was living at 20 Bedhill, Grimsby
Sapper George William Osborne enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Grimsby, he initially served with the service number 7221 in the Scottish Rifles he later transferred to the 252nd Tunnelling Company Royal Engineers. He died of wounds on25th January 1916 and is buried at Mailly-Maillet Communal Cemetery Extension
