Thomas Raven was born in 1892 at Nottingham he was the son of the late Charles Raven a steel bar maker and Elizabeth Raven née Gisby of 34 Kid Street, Nottingham.

His father Charles was born in 1872 at Nottingham he died in 1914 aged 44 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Gisby was born in 1874 also at Nottingham, they were married on 18th April 1892 at St Albans Church, Sneinton, Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 34 Kid Street, Nottingham, Charles 39 yrs is a steel bar maker, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 36 yrs and their children, Elizabeth 9 yrs, Alfred 5 yrs and Ethel 4 yrs of age

Thomas married Mary Ann Trout (born 13th June 1895) in 1914 at Nottingham, they lived at 46 Fyne Street, Nottingham and later 119 High Street, Arnold, they had a daughter Florence Eva born 21st December 1915.

Commencing 14th January 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Thomas Raven enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Arnold, he served with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th April 1917, having no known grave his name is commenced on the Arras Memorial, France.
