Charles Frederick Overton was born in 1889 at Skegness he was the son of Charles a scavenger and Mary Anne Overton née Ingoldby and the brother of Ada, William, Maud, John, Henry, George, Arthur and Walter Overton.
His father Charles was born in 1857 at Winthorpe, Lincolnshire, his mother Mary Annie Ingoldby was born in 1858 at Altoft, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Spilsby registration district, they went on to have 9 children.
In 1911 they lived at 25 Alexandra Road Skegness Lincolnshire Chrles 54 yrs is a scavenger, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 53 yrs and their children, Ad 28 yrs a domestic servant, William 25 yrs a brick layer, Frederick Charles 22 yrs a bricklayers labourer, Maud 20 yrs a waitress, John Henry 16 yrs an apprentice bricklayer, George 15 yrs apprentice boot repairer,Arthur 12 yrs a scholar and Walter 10 yrs a scholar.
Charles was the husband of Hilda May (née Fletcher) (born 14th June 1894 ) whom he married at St Matthias Church Skegness he was the father of Beatrice Maud Overton born 26th January 1915.
Hilda lived at 3 Adam's Place, Oak Street, Carrington, Nottingham and later at 4 Roman Bank, Skegness.
Commencing 12th February 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.
Lance Corporal Frederick Charles Overton enlisted at Skegness whilst reising at Sherwood, he served with the 8th battalion Linconshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd July 1916 he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
Two of his brothers were also killed in the Great War
Private William Overton was killed in action on 10th August 1917
Private John Henry Overton was killed in action on 28th April 1917.
