Family history

Thomas Marsh (junior) was born in 1897 at Carrington, Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas Marsh (senior) a stone mason and Mary Marsh née Seymour of 38 Brace Street, Caldmore, Walsall.

His father Thomas (senior) was born in 1873 his mother Mary Seymour was born in 1871 both were born in Carrington, Nottingham, they were married on 4th August 1894 at St John's Church, Carrington they had a further child, Lydia born 1896 at Carrington.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 38 Brace Street, Caldmore, Walsall Thomas 38 yrs is a stone mason he is living with his wife Mary 40 yrs and their children, Lydia 15 yrs a tailoress and Thomas 14 yrs an office boy at a brush makers.

Military history

Private Thomas Marsh enlisted at Birmingham, he served with the 7th battalion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 24th August 1916 he is buried at London Road Cemetery and Extension Longueval Grave Reference: 7.B.5.

Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged), 23 September 1916: ‘Private T Marsh, DCLI, Hucknall Road, Nottingham, killed in action August 24th aged 19.’
