Family history

Horace Arthur Key was born in 1895 at Grantham, he was the son of Thomas Trafford Key a grocer and Mary Ann Key née Culley he had a sister Lilian Sphia, born in 1892 of 224 Windmill Lane, Sneinton, Nottingham.

His father Thomas Trafford was born in 1864 at Lincoln, his mother Mary Ann Culley was born in 1867 at Gainsborough, they were married in 1888 theiir marriage was recorded in the Grantham registration district, they had 3 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 26a Windmill Lane, Nottingham, Thomas Trafford 46 yrs is a grocer he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children, Lilian Sophia 19 yrs a clerk and Horace Arthur 16 yrs an electrician.

Military history

Driver Horace Arthur Key enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the Royal Field Artillery "D" Battery 123rd Brigade and went to France 1 August 1915. He died of his wounds on 25th August 1918 , he was buried at the Achiet le Grand Communal Cemetery Extension in the Pas de Calais region of France. He was also commemorated on his parents grave in Carlton Cemetery. He was eligible for the British, Victory and 1915 Star medals
